Sick.....again...

Bah. Humbug. I know that's a Christmas-y thing, but it perfectly describes how I feel. I need to get in to see a provider tomorrow at my OB's office, but there are none. Between all of them, they're either on vacation, have other commitments, or are just trying to tick me off. So I don't know what I'm going to do. Probably break down and page my OB directly and ask her for some antibiotics. I've been sick for four days now, so if it was a virus it would have started to get better on its own, but no such luck. I hate antibiotics.

In happier news, Sprout is moving up a storm these days. Doug still hasn't felt it, and he's very anxious to be able to. I can't wait to see his face the first time he feels it. :)

The big ultrasound is in two weeks....general consensus is that it's still a girl, but those who think it's a boy are absolutely positive that it's a "he". I really have no feel one way or the other. Apparently I have all the "classic signs" of both. The hard part after finding out will be coming up with a name. Those of you who have known Doug when you were expecting children know what a chore this will be for me........ :) I think his current favorite is Plaxico Lofa Tatupu.

God help our baby..... :)

p.s....we got the results of the AFP back, and everything looks good! Yay!

Movement! (probably....)

Just popping in to say that I think (almost positive) I felt Sprout move today. I was just drifting off to sleep for a nap (I'm taking advantage while I can!) when I felt two little thumps, like bubbles popping. I tried to lay still to see if it would happen again, but it didn't. Then, a few hours later, I felt it again. Very random, but I think that's him/her. I didn't expect it to be this early. Most textbooks say between 18 and 20, and that's what I always told my patients. But some of the research I've been doing say that some folks can feel it as early as 13 weeks, and others as late as 25. So I guess it's possible! Very cool....

I think we're going down to visit with my in-laws next weekend. We'll get some of the baby furniture that Andrea is giving us. So exciting! Now we just need to know if Sprout is a He-Sprout or a She-Sprout.

15 weeks - how time flies

We had our regular OB appointment today. We're 15 weeks pregnant. Wow! Sprout is bouncing around happily and his/her heartrate is hovering between 150 and 160. All is well. We have a tentative ultrasound date for April 8th. I say it's tentative, because it doesn't look like Doug can make it that day. So I'm trying to reschedule it so that he can be there. This is the "what are we having" ultrasound (along with looking at other important things like organ and skeletal development), so he really wants to be there for that one. I'll let you know if that date gets changed.

I talked a lot with my doctor today about birthing options, and I'm really excited about all the things that my hospital has to offer. So I'm feeling pretty good about things at this point. Not to mention that I have discovered that I have access to a doppler EVERY weekday instead of 2 days a week. Don't think I'm not taking advantage of that!

So, once we know (IF we find out) what we're having, we can get started on getting the nursery cleaned out (it's currently full of all of the tools and stuff we used to put down the hardwood floors) and going through all of the mounds of stuff we have in our basement to see what we still need to get (which isn't going to be much).

I was told yesterday - on two separate occasions - that I am "carrying in my butt". As if I already wasn't concerned about the size of my rear end. I have noticed a little change in my belly the last couple of days. It's all seeming very real these days....

So...we're moving right along. Next MD appointment is scheduled for April 8, when we'll be 18 weeks and 5 days along. Wow!

UPDATED: April the 8th it is...we moved it up so that Doug could make it that morning. LOTS of driving for him that day, but he's very excited to see Sprout again! 26 days and counting!....

First Trimester Screening - Part 2

We got the results from the perinatologist's office about our risk assessment for Down's Syndrome, Trisomy 13 and Trisomy 18. Our risk for Down's is 1 in 7,361. And our risk for Trisomy 13 or 18 is 1 in 10,000. So we're pretty excited about that. Obviously, it doesn't guarantee that everything will remain sunshine and roses, but we're reassured that everything looks great at this point.

I watched the movie "The Business of Being Born" with Nicole, Jessica, and Brianna this weekend. I highly recommend it. It shows some amazing facts about birth in the US compared with other countries. It's made me start thinking of what I want to do when Sprout decides to make an appearance. And I think (THINK) that I want to try to do it naturally. Now, granted, I am a big sissy with a low pain tolerance, but my OB is awesome and has some great resources for people like me. That being said, I'm not going to feel bad if I ask for an epidural after the first real contraction!!

I now offically look like I have a beer gut. Not definitely pregnant-looking, but you can definitely tell that my shape is changing. I'm pretty excited that I'm starting to look pregnant. (Or like I've had one too many Budweisers, all depending on how you look at it :) You have my permission to remind me of that in the middle of August...

13 weeks, 4 days today. Second trimester officially starts on Thursday. Hot-cha-cha!!
